The 2nd biannual SSSP meeting was held April 26-28th at the Tradewinds Sandpiper in St. Pete's Beach, Florida. We had 115 attendees, which represents an increase of approximately 24% from the previous meeting. There were 6 symposia and paper sessions featuring 29 presentations on such diverse topics as the structure of psychopathy; the roles of emotional, genetic, and environmental risk factors in psychopathy; and juvenile precursors of psychopathy. Joseph Newman also delivered a Presidential address, in which he discussed his research into cognitive mechanisms underlying psychopathy. David Lykken's seminal theoretical and experimental contributions to this field were honored during a symposium, during which the R. D. Hare Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Dr. Lykken's son, Joseph. The conference also included 47 posters that displayed cutting-edge research about psychopathy over the course of two sessions. We extend our thanks to Norman Poythress for his tireless work as local host. We are additionally grateful to the University of South Florida's Mental Health Law and Public Policy department, Multi-Health Systems, and Psychological Assessment Resources for providing financial support for the delicious food and refreshments that were served during the poster sessions.
The Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy (SSSP) is a non-profit,
professional organization which was developed to promote the conduct and communication
of scientific research in the field of psychopathy and to encourage education and training
in those fields of science that contribute to research in psychopathy.
