Happy New Year! The Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy is currently in the process of revamping the website to add more features and benefits for current SSSP members. Some of these new and exciting features include a discussion board, a more active student section, enhanced security, and a monthly featured paper section that highlights a recently published manuscript related to psychopathy. We expect the new website to go live by March 2010.
With the new year comes a new term for membership dues. Although membership dues are typically due at the beginning of the year, this year they will not be due until March 2010 as we hope to have the membership payment feature fully automated with the new website. SSSP membership dues will cover a two-year period from January 2010- December 2011 and the membership fee for full/associate/affiliate members is $100 and for student/student affiliate members is $40 for this two-year time period.
The 3rd meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy (SSSP) was held at the Chateau Bourbon - Wyndham in New Orleans, LA, USA, from April 16-18, 2009. The conference included up-to-date research on psychopathy, renowned presenters in the field of psychopathy, and interesting discussions about issues in contention in the field. The invited speaker for the 2009 SSSP conference was Dr. Ahmad Hariri of the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hariri presented his cutting-edge research on "The Neurobiology of Individual Differences in Complex Emotional Traits." Click here to view an abstract of his talk. There are also a few additions this year that we wanted to make you aware of:
The 2009 SSSP conference was preceded by a preconference workshop on Psychopathy and the Law, sponsored by The John T and Catherine D MacArthur Foundation Law and Neuroscience Project. The focus of this preconference was on the intersection between legal issues and psychopathy (definitions and conceptualizations of psychopathy, causes, and neuroscience with implications for the law). The location for the 2011 meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy conference is to be announced.
The Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy (SSSP) is a non-profit, professional organization which was developed to promote the conduct and communication of scientific research in the field of psychopathy and to encourage education and training in those fields of science that contribute to research in psychopathy.
